CORE Innovation Hub expands into Lot Fourteen, awards Australia’s hottest innovators

New ideas, research and partnerships to turbocharge South Australia’s energy and mining sector will be fostered in a purpose-built innovation hub in Adelaide’s Lot Fourteen Innovation District.

CORE Innovation Hub, Australia’s first innovation hub for the energy, mining and resources sector, has officially opened its new Adelaide office, co-working and event space thanks to the support of founding partner the SA Department of Energy and Mining.

The official expansion in Adelaide, coincides with the announcement of CORE’s 2023 Hot 30 Awards recognising the best technologists and entrepreneurs driving innovation across Australia’s critical industries including space and defence.

“Our new and expanded Adelaide Innovation Hub will support business locally and nationally by connecting them to Australia’s largest ecosystem for innovators in the energy and resources sector,” Renee Hakendorf, National Lead, Core Innovation Hub, said.

“It’s an exciting time for transformation across the energy and resources sector, especially in South Australia with the State’s focus on renewable and future fuels.”

SA Minister for Energy and Mining, Tom Koutsantonis, said Core Innovation’s expansion into Lot Fourteen signals the importance SA places on the energy mining and resources sector.

“South Australia has much to offer Core Innovation, and I expect Core Innovation has just as much to offer the state in turn,” he said.

“Having a collaborative space and offices for meetings centrally located among other cutting‑edge organisations enables leaders and innovators in this sector to learn from each other and forge valuable supply chain connections from around the world.”

CORE has operations in Perth and Newman, in WA, and has developed a 5500-strong network of innovators, technologists, industry professionals and academics from across the nation to support solutions from concept to deployment.

The Adelaide headquarters is located in Lot Fourteen’s  Space Lab and offers 14 secure offices, a 32sqm boardroom, 3 meeting rooms and 20 co-working desks along with event space available to hire for networking and corporate functions.

This year also marks the 3rd year of CORE’s Hot 30 Awards with SA Innovator of the Year Award, presented by the SA Department of Energy and Mining, going to Software as a Service platform, LAAMP

LAAMP is designed to modernise training, induction and assessment for companies operating in the mining, energy and resources sector through the use of immersive technology such as virtual reality, augmented reality and facial recognition to maximise learning outcomes.

Other South Australian start-ups making the 2023 Core Innovation Hot 30 list were drink manufacturer PREPD and industry 4.0 Registered Training Organisation, Skills Lab, a SAGE Group company.

PREPD is a hydration enhancer identified as being particularly useful for the mining industry where dehydration and heat exhaustion are major health risks, resulting in 144 fatalities per year and costing $4 billion.

Skills Lab was created specifically to meet the demand for high-quality learning, by using experienced engineers and technicians to help companies in Australia and internationally through their digital transformation.

Ms Hakendorf said the winners of the CORE Hot 30 were outstanding in their fields.

“The Hot 30 represent the very best of our next generation of businesses which are developing new technologies and using innovation to solve real-world problems for Australia’s biggest industries,” she said.

“CORE Innovation hub is proud to use these awards to showcase the entrepreneurial prowess of new and evolving businesses and their significant contributions and advancement of solutions for the mining, energy, and resources sectors.”

Sponsors of the Hot 30 awards include BHP, METS Ignited, Resource Capital Funds Jolimont Investment, Rio Tinto, SA Department for Energy and Mining, and Wrays.
