Ping Monitor is using acoustic monitoring to revolutionise wind turbine maintenance and reduce the cost of operating wind turbines, helping to fast-track the transition to a renewable energy future.

Wind turbine blade maintenance is typically a labour intensive, time-consuming and often costly exercise to identify potential risks on malfunctioning wind turbines.

Qualified technicians have been required to perform time-intensive and costly inspection programs to diagnose potential problems and perform the required repairs. Until now.

Ping Monitor uses its advanced acoustic monitoring system to help operators understand the health of wind turbine blades. By monitoring changes in sound generated by operating wind turbine blades, Ping Monitor can accurately identify turbine blades in need of servicing and detect blade defects before they can cause significant problems. Early damage detection is critical in allowing prompt blade repair when the damage is smaller and cheaper to fix.

The Ping Monitor system offers operators constant monitoring of turbines to remove the need to perform inspections to turbines that aren’t showing signs of damage, helping to reduce operating and maintenance costs.

Continuous monitoring offers consistency of analysis across multiple wind turbines and along the operational timeline. By continuously collecting data, Ping Monitor can produce advanced analytics whereby it can identify the specific blade defect being either tip damage, leading-edge erosion, gouge or lightning strike or split tip.

Ping Monitor makes wind turbine maintenance easy by providing users with a cloud-based real-time data visualisation application, providing clear and insightful data to end users. Ensuring that operators are able to easily and quickly interpret the data output and are able to make informed decisions has been a key in enabling better risk management through the increased ability to accurately forecast damages and maintenance costs.

Ping Monitor is leading the way in wind turbine maintenance both in Australia and globally.
