TAU5 is a South African-founded, Australian-based innovator changing how companies within the mining sector approach digitalisation. After identifying ongoing inefficiencies within mining operations, TAU5 co-developed an innovative underground mining productivity optimisation system called Smart Mine 4IR.

The system combines IoT hardware, intelligent prescriptive analytical software, and data science knowledge to identify the mining production cycle inefficiencies. Where more traditional analytics tools focus on maximising uptime, the Smart Mine 4IR system can assess performance in both real-time and post-shift to generate actionable insights for continuous improvements.

Smart Mine 4IR identifies opportunities to improve operational efficiencies across every activity. TAU5 and Smart Mine 4IR monitor and predict the impact of inefficiencies in equipment performance, process compliance, operator performance and environmental conditions. By quantifying outcomes of corrective actions in dollar value, TAU5 helps companies to realise the direct impact of corrective actions on their bottom line more quickly. 

After three years of research, development, and pilot testing, TAU5, with their African channel partner Schauenburg Systems released a commercially viable product and have since implemented on two underground sites with tier-1 mining companies in South Africa. The focus for TAU5 is now primarily on the Australian mining sector, aiming for pilot sites in Western Australia and Queensland to demonstrate quantifiable value. TAU5 will be implementing the system at an underground mine in North America in 2021.
